ALESUND – LIGHTNING lead single from the latest EP

Single review

“Lightning” is the lead single from the latest EP from Bristol based Alesund and is a huge slab of layered perfection.

The new EP is entitled “A Thread in the Dark” and will be released on February 26th. Written as a nemesis to COVID-19 and the darkness that it brought to the last year the new ep will do well to maintain the high standards of the “All Hail to Your Queen” EP released in 2020. However, on the evidence of this single Alesund seem to have got it just right.

A slow atmospheric opening immediately capture the attention as the stunning vocal hits you. A nice arpeggiated guitar riff runs through the song without over powering the mix. Layers and then more layers of sound help the atmospheric vibe as acoustic drums and percussion help the song float along in an almost folk vein.

The captivating vocal performance never drops in quality and is complimented by distant backing vocals as the unusual twin set of uplifting, yet haunting, sound demand your attention.

Overall the song is really good and the outstanding engineering certainly helps. This song could easily be a standout at festivals if we are ever to see such events any time soon. It would sit perfectly in that afternoon / early evening period at a festival where the crowd need recharged after the night (and morning) before.

Video to be released on 5th March
