Elle Coves has today shared new track ‘Born To Lose’, available now on Platoon. The 19-year-old concluded her breakout inaugural year with the release of ‘Lost Cowboy’, the first track from an upcoming debut EP set to follow ‘Born To Lose’ soon. Elle has also announced details of her first ever headline dates, with Manchester and London shows for February on sale now.

‘Born To Lose’ is an emotionally-charged drawing of the line in a relationship, its driving, Americana-influenced Pop both a graduate from the school of Red and distinctly Elle Coves’ own. At its steely core, says Elle, ‘Born To Lose’ is actually about “reaching a breaking point; when you realise that a person can’t just hurt you over and over again and expect everything will go back to how it was with a simple apology.”

Elle Coves has caught immediate attention since she started releasing music last summer. Her story, though, is no mere overnight success. Having been born in Germany to Spanish parents before moving to Ireland at the age of thirteen, music proved something of an anchor for Elle (a natural nomad, and self-confessed introvert): she recalls scribbling lyrics in the margins of her books during class, and cut her teeth on the local scene juggling her studies with gigs supporting the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Wild Youth and Moncrieff. Elle channeled all this into viral first single ‘Before I Fall Apart’, a cinematic coming-of-age banger that, far from falling apart, in fact proved a breakthrough.

On her hugely accomplished upcoming EP, Elle Coves expands her considerable horizons further still – influences range from the stadium rock of Haim or the razor-sharp country of Kacey Musgraves to the empowered anthems Maggie Rogers. It’s a spirit memorably captured on first single ‘Lost Cowboy’, which inverted the Western narrative of the damsel in distress and perfectly soundtracked the Wild West of Gen Z life. Even in the crisis-point of ‘Born To Lose’, Elle Coves is a talent way beyond her years and totally at home in the new wave of Pop.
