The backdrop of the famous old Scottish Castle delighted fans as they marvelled at Feeder and Bryan Adams performances

A welcome return to Scotland to Floors Castle in Kelso in the Scottish Borders for indie Welsh rock band Feeder who hit the stage during a bit of a storm as Geoff Holroyde on drums had to grab and adjust his high hats before they blew over. Once sorted, Feeder fans and fans new to the band were treated to a nonstop 9-track set. Over the years, Feeder has enjoyed some success with over 20 high charting singles and 11 album releases.
The opening track, ‘Feeling A Moment’, was one of their top-selling singles and fans reacted with hands waving and quietly singing back the words. ‘Lost & Found’ followed and was backed with a full-screen video at the back of the stage. ‘The Healing’ from their new album Torpedo reminded us that Feeder still plays at the top of their game embracing playing live and engaging the crowd ‘let’s see your hands as the sun came out. This track provided Tika Hirose with a chance to leap around the stage dressed in a cowboy shirt and his noticeable haircut was not to be missed. Grant Nicholas then announced to the crowd ‘I hear the Scots can sing – let’s hear you on this one – ‘Fear of Flying’. The back screen then displayed a fancy car and from the opening lyrics belted out by Grant ‘Just got a brand new car, looks like a jaguar’ it was time for the band’s biggest selling single Buck Rogers. ‘Tallulah’ from the album Tullulah was possibly the most aggressive track played followed by ‘High’ possibly the oldest. Finally ‘Just a Day’ brought their set to a close.

The crowd now awaiting the arrival of Bryan Adams on stage, a background video was playing showing an abandoned car, wheels were nicked and several interested characters passed by, including a traffic warden who placed a parking fine on the vehicle much to the disgust of the sleeping driver – It was Bryan who simultaneously appeared on stage.
‘In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth – then man – but something was missing – no rock music – then an angel was created and said – Let there be guitar, drums, bass – Let there be rock’ , All part of the opening track ‘Kick Ass’ from Bryan’s latest album and tour title ‘So Happy it Hurts’. After playing ‘Can’t Stop This Thing We Started’ and ‘Somebody’ Bryan took time out to address the crowd and admire the scenery including the magnificent Floors Castle.
“Is it Haunted? Would a Ghost Appear” and as if by Magic a light moved in the darkness from Room to Room as the band played ‘Shine a Light’. This was part of the quieter part of the stage set with Bryan on acoustic to sing a stunning version of ‘Heaven’ ably supported by Keith Scott on lead guitar. Back to rock and rockabilly with ‘Go Down Rocking’, ‘It’s Only Love’ (minus the appearance of Tina Turner lost in the traffic), ‘You Belong to Me’, ’I’ve been Looking for You’.
The last two tracks played with the cameras filming the lively crowd. Back to the ballads we were treated to ‘Have You Ever Loved a Woman’, ‘Here I Am‘, ‘When You’re Gone’ and the classic ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It for You’. Rocking again brought up the stunning tracks played by a magnificent band ‘Back to You’, ‘Kids Wanna Rock’ and off-course the customary classics ‘Summer of 69’ and ’Cuts Like a Knife’. cheers echoing around, the encore did not disappoint ‘So Happy It Hurts’, Run to You’, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You (Frankie Valli cover) and finally a reprise of ‘Shine a Light’
For this reschedule ‘So Happy It Hurts’ Tour Bryan had assembled an array of accomplished experienced musicians, and a sound and lighting crew to give us an amazing experience. Bryan’s voice and playing were as clear as days of old and matched the sound of the original recordings. The crowd then left along a magical woodland walk, lit by fairy lights to their cars and buses. Well done Floors Castle for the organisation!
