Dead Writers “Among Spirits” Single Review

DEAD WRITERS UNVEIL NEW SINGLE “AMONG SPIRITS” + STUDIO SESSIONS VIDEO

Later this month, Dead Writers will release their new single Among Spirits’” the first track from their hotly anticipated self-titled debut EP due out later this year. The song is released on 29th October along with a stained glass-tinted studio session video filmed on location at Grand Chapel Studios, where the band recorded their latest material.

Mixed by Mark Tucker (P J Harvey, Robert Plant), “Among Spirits” is an atmospheric and majestic rock track that has the band displaying their ability to create intense dynamics, contrast between darkness and light, and memorable chorus lines. The lyrics deal with the struggle of separation in personal relationships and express a desire for soul-searching, growth and independence.

The track opens with a 90s grunge riff with overtones of The Cure, and hints of The Manic Street Preachers in that majestic chorus, with a compelling vocal over swirling guitars and some neat touches on the piano.  The accompanying video shows the band at work in the studio, and the viewer is immediately drawn to their charismatic front man, Paul Shine, and the inevitable comparisons to a young Robert Smith of the aforementioned The Cure.  New, Fresh, and relevant, yet somehow comfortably familiar, “Among Spirits”  is a foretaste of the Dead Writers debut EP expected later in the year.

Dead Writers are a London-based Indie-Rock four-piece making waves on the London Indie circuit since 2018.  They will be supporting Bad Touch at the O2 Academy Islington on 2nd December, 2021.
