PUBLIC URGED TO NOMINATE FOR THE 2024 SCOTTISH LGBT+ DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION AWARDS
One of Scotland’s most glamourous and sparkling award ceremonies will return to Edinburgh on Saturday the 1st June 2024. The Proud Scotland Awards celebrate the countries LGBT+ communities and allies that work hard for LGBT+ equality and together do amazing things in every community in Scotland. The judges are asking for the help of Scots to ensure that they hear the inspirational achievements and actions from every city, town and village in the country (and further afield) as part of this year’s search for the 2023 Proud Scotland finalists.
Public nominations across 18 categories are now open for Scotland’s National LGBT+ Awards, now in its 5th year, and people are able to submit details of individuals, community groups, businesses and public figures they know have done something beneficial in the past year to help support LGBT+ equality at the awards website www.proudscotlandawards.com
Founded in 2019 by community members who thought that Scotland should be able to hold a ceremony that is as grand and lavish as you see in London – they have quickly been adopted by Scotland’s LGBT+ communities and has grown steadily even with the disruption of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. In 2019 it was hosted by breakfast radio royalty, Ewen Cameron and Cat Harvey, 2020 saw a special broadcast due to Covid hosted by fashionista Gok Wan MBE alongside the stars of ITV morning and daytime TV and Double BAFTA nominee David Carlyle.
Thousands of nominations have been submitted over the past few years to the independent judges and has seen winners such as, Comedian Janey Godley, Glasgow Social Worker James McLeod, Singer Emeli Sande, activist Luke McGregor, Professor Maggie Kinloch & Dr Michael Farquhar, Johanne Mundie from the Army, footballer Zander Murray and Scottish singer Horse MacDonald.

Seeing the nominations come in each year gives us great hope for the future and as it offers another platform to share how equality is delivered via friends and neighbours, charities, organisations and all the many allies in every community across Scotland.” We are proud to not only champion the amazing work that people do in supporting people who are LGBT+ in Scotland but also work with some of the hardest hit sectors during the pandemic to profile and showcase what they do for their customers and patrons.
The main award is dubbed Scotland’s LGBT+ Hall of Fame and is chosen each year by the judges after an extensive search — the existing hall of fame members are Scott Cuthbertson from the Equality Network, Glasgow City Councils Natalie Scott, Channel 4’s Hollyoaks star Annie Wallace, the producer of It’s A Sin and Doctor Who Russel T Davies, retired military equalities head Douglas Morgan and the British High Commissioner to India Alan Gemmell and last years winner Horse MacDonald.
The Proud Scotland Awards raise funds for Pride Edinburgh and Glasgow’s Pride Mardi Gla to ensure they can continue to grow as the 2 largest pride marches in Scotland. Every individual finalist is offered the option of 2 complementary tickets to the lavish awards ceremony show which will be held this year in Edinburgh, to ensure that cost should not be a barrier to shinning in front of your community and peers.
