David Marshall joins The LaFontaines team for Euros anthem Scotland, Bonnie Scotland

David Marshall joins The LaFontaines team for Euros anthem Scotland, Bonnie Scotland

With Scotland making their monumental return to the Euros for their first major football tournament in 23 years, Scottish rockers The LaFontaines evoke the spirit of The Tartan Army with new single Scotland, Bonnie Scotland.
Dropping on 1st June, the band team up with Scotland goalie David Marshall for the video which also features football stars Charlie Mulgrew, Chris Burke, Gary Caldwell, Kenny Miller, Suzanne Grant, and Kris Boyd and a host of famous faces including Grado, Storm Huntley and Jonathan Watson for a pre-Euros kick about.

Scotland, Bonnie Scotland was born out of a bit of fun on The LaFontaines hilarious podcast, but what started as a laugh soon turned into the Scottish soundtrack that everybody will be singing. Perfectly channeling the joy and excitement being felt by hundreds of thousands of Scots right now. “Scotland, Bonnie Scotland, from the East Coast to the West. Tartan, tartan army, taking on all Europe’s best,” Jamie Keenan’s vocals soar through a chorus that demands a sing-along, before the track breaks down, making way for Okan’s inimitable style of slick indie-rap.

Kerr Okan, The LaFontaines frontman said:Like the rest of the nation that night we were watching the game and kicked every ball with the team and we were podcasting after it talking about what it meant to qualify for the first time in 23 years. So as a joke we just decided that what the nation really needs, after a result like that, is for us to write the National Team’s anthem so that’s what we did. We wrote it live on the podcast in 30 minutes and went to bed. We woke up the next morning and it had gone low-key viral with people saying it was our best song. From there players and fans started sharing it. It’s magic, I’m absolutely buzzing!”

Sampling Baccara’s ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’ –  which became Scotland’s unofficial anthem after a video of the squad dancing to the song post-qualifying for the European Championships went viral – it also features commentary from the eye-watering moment when Scotland clinched their place in November 2020’s historic win.
Having played to audiences across the world and toured with some of the biggest names in music, the band have released three critically acclaimed albums, with 2019’s Junior going on to reach No.33 in the Top 40 Album Chart. Now, the trio are bringing their electric energy football fans as Scotland eagerly awaits the country’s first shot at a major tournament in over 20 years.

The Fonts’ new summer anthem hasn’t quite united ALL Scotland fans though – in fact it has caused a little disharmony in one famous Scots DJ’s home. The band welcomed a new signing to Team Font – Mrs Ellene Bowie, wife of George, who has remixed Scotland, Bonnie Scotland as Her Indoors along with Sparkos. Which means she, with her new pals Kerr, Jamie and Daz, is up against her husband who has released his own cover of football anthem Yes Sir I Can Boogie with Baccara.

Scotland, Bonnie Scotland will be available via Spotify and Youtube. With just under 13 million Spotify streams to date and a brand new album on the way and their biggest headline show to date at Glasgow’s Academy on 20th August The LaFontaines continue to be an unstoppable force in UK music.

The LaFontaines are:

Kerr Okan (vocals), Jamie Keenan (drums/vocals) and Darren McCaughey (guitar/production).
