Emi V’s beautiful new single Walking Away about struggles of strange times, with all proceeds going to the Tech Device Network campaign
Emi V, one of Scotland’s brightest young talents, is helping fight loneliness through music.
Her upcoming single Walking Away is a soulful recognition of the hardships that many families are facing in these difficult times. In light of this, Emi is donating all proceeds made from the record to the Tech Device Network – a campaign to help connect residents of Scotland’s care homes with their loved ones through technology.
At just 16, Emi V has already played more than 50 live gigs and festivals across the country – including a slot on the breakthrough stage at Eden Festival.
Walking Away is the second single to be released from her debut EP which is expected later this year. Emi felt this song in particular resonated so poignantly with the feelings of isolation many are facing right now, and that the proceeds should be used to help combat them.
The Tech Device Network is appealing to the Scottish public to help provide devices that will enable invaluable face-to-face communication throughout the current coronavirus outbreak.
Publicist Jenn Nimmo-Smith came up with the idea. She realised while video calling her 60-year-old mum who lives in a care home that many other residents would not be able to do the same.
The campaign, which is backed by Scottish Care, aims to alleviate feelings of anxiety and loneliness by allowing vulnerable people to stay in contact with friends and family while the current physical distancing measures are in place.
Emi V described why the cause is so close to her heart:
“I really wanted to help because I can’t imagine not being able to contact my granny. She is like a best friend to me. It’s upsetting to think people are feeling alone in care homes and distanced from their family, without a way to really keep in touch.
“The song, ‘Walking Away’ is based on loneliness. While everything around us seems to be falling to pieces, we are apart from family.
“Although I wrote it before the coronavirus outbreak, the emotion behind it resonated even more now, so the moment I saw Jenn’s campaign I just felt like the song fitted with this beautiful idea.”
