| All Points East returns for 2022, with an epic line up of world class headliners and guests. Once again, the festival is the place to experience the greatest nights of music from the world’s best live acts and discover your new favourite band. Earlier today, Mary Anne Hobbs announced the line up on her BBC Radio 6 Music show. With legendary artists topping the bill and a supporting line up of some of the most acclaimed musicians working today, the award winning festival celebrates its full return with its best line up yet. Gorillaz, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s spectacular crew of virtual misfits lands in Victoria Park on Friday 19 August, fresh from the success of acclaimed 2020 album ‘Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez’ and recent EP ‘Meanwhile’. 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs and guitar prodigy Noodle burst onto the global stage in 2000, following a collision of mishaps, meetings and pure luck to blow up a pre-digital world with their colourful backstory, ground-breaking musical innovation and thrilling live performance, and the biggest virtual band on the planet is bigger than ever. Special guest support comes from Bristolian 5 piece IDLES, who have been tearing up festival stages over the last few years and just released thrilling new album ‘Crawler’ to rave reviews. APE Presents: Field Day lands on Saturday 20 August with a jaw dropping double headliner featuring two of electronic music’s biggest ever names, The Chemical Brothers and Kraftwerk, combining the UK’s most popular dance duo with perhaps the most influential group of all time. Headlining the main East Stage, The Chemical Brothers’ block-rockin’ beats have made them that rare electronic artist – as respected in the clubs as they are in the charts and headlining festivals around the world. Tracks like ‘Galvanize’, ‘Go’, ‘Got To Keep On’ and ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’ have won the band a worldwide audience and made them a live powerhouse. Following their last, acclaimed album, ‘No Geography’, The Chemical Brothers released a new single, ‘The Darkness That Your Fear’, earlier this year and produced new mixes for their ‘Radio Chemical’ project for Sonos Radio. Kraftwerk pioneered many musical styles we love today. From their start in 1970 they created pristine melodies and synthetic voices on electronic instruments. computer sounds and robotic rhythms with sequencers and vocoders. Their influence is immeasurable, leading from electro to hip hop, house to techno, synth pop to industrial and ambient to EDM. The man-machine Kraftwerk will present their legendary live show from the West Stage, combining digital surround sound with breath-taking 3-D animations and robotics. A much anticipated Tame Impala headline set on Thursday 25 August follows with Kevin Parker’s transcendent outfit surging through the success of 2020 album ‘The Slow Rush’ to become one the biggest live acts in the world. As a writer and producer Parker has collaborated with The Weeknd, Travis Scott, SZA, Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kanye West, Kali Uchis, Theophilus London, Miguel, A$AP Rocky and more and become one of the most sought after musicians in the world by both fans and peers. FKJ, also known as French Kiwi Juice, provides support. A star of New French House, electrifying Parisian clubs in the middle of the last decade, he is a singer and multi-instrumentalist bringing sublime jazz and soul with electronic grooves. Caroline Polachek also stars. The US singer-songwriter recently took the UK by storm, receiving 5 star reviews for her show at London’s Roundhouse, with particular attention on her astonishing vocals. Formerly one half of pop duo Chairlift, she released her first solo record ‘Pang’ 2 years ago and has collaborated with Charli XCX and Christine and The Queens for new track ‘New Shapes.’ The National are celebrating 20 years since the release of their self-titled debut album, and will make a welcome return to the UK on Friday 26 August for All Points East. Since The National’s last tour here in 2019, lead singer Matt Berninger has released his debut solo album, and bandmate Aaron Dessner has won another Grammy for his ongoing collaboration with Taylor Swift (producing, co-writing and performing on her album folklore), as well as putting out the second album from his own project Big Red Machine. The National have also found time to contribute a tune to the soundtrack for the upcoming Joe Wright-directed film Cyrano. The National’s last album I Am Easy To Find (2019) was a global hit including a Number 2 in the UK. Aaron Dessner recently hinted at more new music from the band for 2022, ensuring their All Points East performance is going to be an extra exciting time to catch them live. Complementing The National perfectly are the shimmering harmonies of Fleet Foxes who released a surprise, hopeful album ‘Shore’ in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. A top 5 UK record, it featured highly in many 2020 year-end lists and was described as both “life affirming” and “hauntingly beautiful.” All Points East is the first live performance announced for Fleet Foxes since the release of ‘Shore’. Essential UK dance duo Disclosure will bring us all together again, after recently releasing 5 pulsating tracks in 5 days to celebrate the return of club culture. The Lawrence Brothers released last album ‘ENERGY’ in 2020 but broke onto the scene as teenagers, fusing UK house and garage with songwriting skills – collaborating with everyone from Sam Smith to Kelis along the way. Now one of dance music’s biggest live draws, they light up All Points East on Saturday 27 August. James Blake also performs, fresh from the success of 5th album ‘Friends That Break Your Heart’. The Mercury Prize winning Brit singer songwriter is a firm favourite of the discerning festival fan. Famous collaborators include Kanye West, Dave, Frank Ocean, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and Beyonce but his delicate, unconventional and warm sounds win over any crowd. And finally, one of the great live acts performing today, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds will play the final night of All Points East on Sunday 28 August, for one of the most anticipated shows of 2022. After releasing the album ‘Ghosteen’ in 2019, up there on most critics’ album of the year lists, the band had to abandon their subsequent tour in the midst of COVID. Nick Cave and Bad Seed Warren Ellis used the time to make the extraordinary ‘CARNAGE’, a record the duo took on tour this year around the UK, to universal admiration. A return for the full band in 2022 is a date for every music fan’s diary. Michael Kiwanuka will also grace All Points East’s final night of 2022. His last album, the extraordinary ‘Kiwanuka’, won the Mercury Prize in 2019 and his already hugely impressive live shows only grew in stature. He recently released his first new music since that album with the song ‘Beautiful Life’, the title music for the Netflix documentary ‘Convergence: ‘Courage In A Crisis’ and more new music is eagerly awaited. Remaining in August but reverting to its double weekends format, All Points East 2022 takes place on Friday August 19 and Saturday August 20th and then the whole August bank holiday weekend from Thursday August 25th to Sunday August 28th. For 4 joyous days, fans were treated to a celebration led by London Grammar and Jorja Smith, Jamie xx and Kano, Bicep (at APE Presents: Field Day) and Foals and Bombay Bicycle Club. The quality of artists ran very deep across the days with established names and those on the cusp of stardom entertaining crowds – Caribou, Gang Of Youths, Maisie Peters, Holly Humberstone, Nadine Shah, Loyle Carner, Celeste, Mahalia, Floating Points, Kojey Radical, Sons Of Kemet, Tom Misch, Slowthai, Little Simz, Arlo Parks, Nubya Garcia, Pa Salieu were just some of the acts who appeared in Victoria Park. BBC Radio 6 Music hosted the X Stage, with stunning line ups curated by their DJs, Tom Ravenscroft, Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs. The festival has been recognised as one of the summer’s essential events since its inception in 2019. Q Magazine awarded All Points East 2019 ‘Festival Of The Year’. In May 2019, All Points East won the award for ‘Best Festival’ at the Music Week Awards. The year before, 2018’s debut established this essential new event as one of the best festivals in the UK. Winning ‘Festival Of The Year’ at the Music Week Awards and ‘Line-Up of the Year’ at the UK Festival Awards, All Points East 2018 boasted headline sets from LCD Soundsystem, The xx, Björk, Catfish & The Bottlemen, The National and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. East London’s beautiful Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets also hosts a hugely popular community focused event each year. In The Neighbourhood, in collaboration with Tower Hamlets Council, hosts a vibrant programme of activities and entertainment, working with the local community, businesses, organisations and suppliers. Previous activities have seen something for everyone – eco-friendly creative workshops, free yoga sessions, street food, open air movie nights, themed drag shows and film panels with Richmix. Everything is free and 2022’s programme will be announced soon… A commitment to sustainability and accessibility goes hand in hand with the community elements and All Points East is proud to have been awarded Gold on Attitude is Everything’s Charter of Best Practice for our commitment to Deaf and disabled music fans. All Points East continues to work each year with local charity theTower Project to give volunteer opportunities to young people with learning disabilities and autism on site at the festival, as well as providing education and performance opportunities to the students of nearby ELAM arts and music school.
