Festival Review: Let’s Rock Scotland Festival , Dalkeith, Edinburgh 2018

Let’s Rock Festival are celebrating ’10 YEARS‘ of Retro festivals all across the U.K. This year in 2018, would be their first time in Scotland . This was a sell-out, and a record 23,000 people attended the Dalkeith Country Park, Edinburgh, which was bursting to capacity.

There was virtually no space to move as every available space was taken with people sat on deck chairs or with picnic rugs huddled around any space that was available and all the spaces that were set aside for paths for walking were also crowded with people.

Let’s Rock Scotland, was hailed as the biggest ever at the attendance to a Let’s Rock Festival in thei10 year history. This is a true testimony to everyone who attends and to the organisers and PR, and crowds that had amassed to Dalkeith, Country Park, Edinburgh.

The 80s Music was enjoyed by so many people of all ages and showing that it’s still very popular by all age groups. A host of 80s musicians performing to the crowds and with the added bonus that it was sunny and stayed dry all day.  This certainly wasn’t normal weather for Scotland as the Summer’s in Scotland are usually wet and cold.  However the Sun was shining brightly, and hot and apart from a little cloud at the beginning of the day  it didn’t dampen anyone’s mood and everyone was having a great time with plenty of activities for everyone and kiosks selling Hot and Cold Food with plenty of Booze for those who like a beer or wine or two. Water taps were located around the festival keeping everyone happy through-out a long entertaining a ten-hour day of music and fun.

The crowds really embraced the occasion of 1980’s dressing in retro costumes with Some having dressed as cartoon characters from the 80s, and others chose to dress as well known TV sitcom characters and also obviously  Music idols from the 80s era.

While Black Lace, certainly entertained the crowds having them push the pineapple of the trees. and then to follow they created very large conga within the crowd. This added to the fun-packed celebrations of 1980s Music and Retro nostalgia. This was on the halfway point and had the crowds buzzing. And a firm favourite with everyone at the festival.

It was on the Main Stage, with The Retrobates live Band and Nathan Moore of Brother Beyond who had to pick up of the stage floor someone’s white Bra of them and then hung it on a mic stand nearby and left dangling as he continued his set. A funny part later was when all the acts were on the stage, and Peter Coyle (Lotus Eaters) wore the Bra which created lots of laughter from all the musicians on stage and also from all crowds.

A spectacular funny moment which also then continued later with

Tony Hadley next to have a Black bra thrown at him on stage. Again Tony took this and attached on to one of the fellow musicians neck of his guitar and sang along with him.

The day was excellent with performances from all the acts and in the V.I.P lounge. Musicians were:-

Fuzzbox, Katrina and the Waves, Go West, Marc Almond, Modern Romance,  Billy Ocean, Tony Hadley, Nik Kershaw, Midge Ure, Claire Grogan, Martyn Fry of ABC, Annabella Lwin, Peter Coyle, Nick Hayward, Hazel Dean, Nathan Moore.

Its only taken ten years for Let’s Rock to attend Scotland. However, no doubt will now be a regular location in the future, looking forward to 2019.

Some revellers have travelled from all corners of the UK.  There are some who have attended most of all of the 10 Let’s Rock Festivals.

The Let’s Rock festivals start in May with the first venue at  The Moor Cookham, and then soon ending at The  London venue on the ‘28th of July 2018′. There are 10 venues set around sections of the UK.

A highlight was being clipped on the side of the head in the photo pit as a rather drunk person had to be taken out from the front of the crowd .security were walking him backwards and a thud to the side of my head and on turning there was a smiling drunk  with outstretched arms, possibly unaware that he had just clobbered one of the photographers on the side of the head . Nerveless it never fazed anyone and we carry on capturing the performance in the galleries below.

Let’s Rock Scotland is a brilliant Festival and very well organised by UK Live Events
