The Sherlocks

Charting at #6 in the UK Album charts, 2017 debut ‘Live For The Moment’ won Sheffield four-piece The Sherlocks an army of alt-rock and indie fans. The Sherlocks are  brothers Kiaran and Brandon Crook, and, Andy and Josh Davidson.

Patchchord News’ Kerrin Carr, caught up with The Sherlocks ahead of the release of their eagerly awaited sophomore album ‘Under Your Sky’. 

Your forthcoming second album ‘Under Your Sky’ will be released on October 4th on Infectious Music, what should fans expect?

The fans can expect 11 bangers each in their own right. Similar to the first album, it’s a collection of different kinds of songs. I really feel we’ve covered all bases on this record… the fans will love it.

New single ‘Magic Man’ is out now- so tell me, who actually is the ‘magic man’?

The Magic Man is whoever you want it to be… the song wasn’t wrote with much thought in terms of a deeper meaning. But at the same time this is what is so good about it. The lyrics are off the cuff and they don’t really make much sense but that’s what just what came out at the time. It was wrote in minutes and stemmed from a private joke about a video on YouTube titled along the lines of ‘The Angriest Guitar Player In The World’. Check it out and you’ll get the idea…

The video for Under Your Sky’s lead single ‘NYC (Sing It Loud)’ featured This is England and Game of Thrones actor Thomas Turgoose – so how did you get in tow with him?

We’ve known Tommo a while and he’s a big fan of our band. He’s been down to plenty of gigs and we’ve shared one or two nights out and quickly became very good friends so getting him in the video didn’t take much doing. He’s a legend.

You released your debut album, ‘Live For The Moment’, in 2017; so how did it all start for The Sherlocks?

It started like most bands, very organic for us… Josh & Andy moves into the village and we became friends in no time at all. It didn’t take long before we shared a love for making noise on our instruments in a garage and then moved on to playing in pubs. We made the natural transition to writing our own stuff and then getting a label behind us. Once that final box was ticked after years of learning our craft we set our targets on getting our debut album together.

From East to West, The Sherlocks have played intensively at home and internationally, what’s been your favourite show so far?

It’s too hard to call. We’ve had many… we’ve played with Liam Gallagher, Richard Ashcroft, the Kooks, Kings of Leon, The Kaiser Chiefs and many many more but we are always extremely proud of our own shows. Having said that, I’d have to go with our biggest headline show which would be Victoria Warehouse in Manchester!

You recorded ‘Under Your Sky’ at Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios, with The Coral’s James Skelly on production- describe a typical day in the studio?

A typical day was just plenty of laughing and joking. We take it very serious but at the same time, what’s the point if you’re not having a laugh while doing it.

You are a Sheffield band – Sheffield is also home to a few other famous musicians? Choose your favourite….
