Green Man 2021 officially begins today, opening its doors to a 20,000 capacity sold-out crowd. The 18th edition of the festival is set to be a hugely special return; a poignant reminder of the power of communal celebration. Following an enforced break in 2020 due to the pandemic, the festival are thrilled to return for a spectacular weekend of live music, arts, science and more.

Happy festival goers were welcomed this morning by a troupe of Welsh drag artists and the 30 foot handcrafted Green Man effigy. In time honoured tradition, the festival will close on Sunday night with the burning of the Green Man: an evocative moment that sees a procession of torches climbing up the hill to the Green Man following Fontaines D.C.’s incendiary closing set that will be especially emotional this year.

Today, festival goers will be treated to sets from up-and-comers Wet Leg, PVA and Working Men’s Club, and closing the evening out with a headline slot from the mesmeric and once-in-a-generation talent, Tirzah

Over the course of the weekend, there are headline shows from Mogwai, Caribou and Fontaines D.C. as well as performances from Self Esteem, Nadine Shah, Thundercat, This is The Kit, Georgia, Shame and many more.

Alongside the stunning musical lineup, there is a diverse range of events waiting for festival goers to dig into. Art installations are scattered throughout the festival, complementing the idyllic views of the Welsh Valleys, whilst the bar staff of the legendary Green Man beer and cider festival start to serve drinks to  the thirsty crowd. Other areas of the festival include a prehistoric / Land Before Little Folk themed area of discovery and exploration for the ‘little folk’, as well as the celebrated talking shop stage and  DJ, busking and crafting workshops for teenagers in the Somewhere area.

The return to Green Man this year is one that is set to be as brilliant as ever: a spectacle to reignite the senses after over a year of hibernation.

Festival goers who had purchased a Settler’s Pass, a special ticket which includes discounts on local heritage sites, galleries, castles and more, arrived on Monday for a week in the Welsh valleys as part of their Green Man 2021 experience.
