Hailing from Kilmarnock Scotland, Alternative Rock trio, KINGFISHER, Liam French (Vocals and Guitar), Angus Dobson (Bass), and Munro Crerar (Drums & Guitar), are set to release their A/A Single titled, Bon Voyage, which boasts a captivating combination of 90’s Brit-Pop and Psychedelic Rock. Self-recorded and self-mixed between Ayrshire College’s Rock Pool Studios and the band’s home studios, the A/A consisting of two brand new tracks, With You Not Around and Bon Voyage, and was mastered by Paul Savage (Mogwai, The Twilight Sad) at Chem19 Recording Studio. The A/A is set for release on Friday 7th May via Sun Turtle Records.

With a handful of DIY releases under their belts in recent years including the previous single Ammunition, KINGFISHER’s A/A was created after the tragic loss of their friend and drummer Connor Johnstone, and the release relates to the band’s grief and love, almost as though it is a final goodbye. With the production of both tracks being finalised in home studios due to Covid-19, the journey of the release was slow, and at times a painful process, but the reward is a more personal feel to the recordings.

With You Not Around has an element of an easy listening feel, where the arrangement leans on the acoustic guitar and French’s soothing vocals. There is a mellow and peaceful flow throughout, demonstrated beautifully by the highly personal lyrics. Bon Voyage, a more energetic and riff led track came together combining the music with words from a poem written by Connor, who sadly passed away in 2018. KINGFISHER described listening to recordings of the song as “bizarre, using his own words back to him”, and it felt as though they were “interfacing with him from beyond the grave.”
