Playground Festival 2021 brought us Boy George, Kathy Sledge for Day 2

Day two of Playground Festival 2021 brought us Boy George, Kathy Sledge, Roisin Murphy, Vitalic, true mayhem in the Forty Clothing VIP and of course, our wonderful forest of mischief which has been the hit of the weekend for so many.

Crowds arrived through the day to explore our sprawling site in stunning Rouken Glen park, enjoying the wide-open spaces and those little surprises like rope acrobats in the trees, the gin garden, and much more.

Kids went wild with Mini Manoeuvres and the lucky ones grabbed a monster waffle from the dessert truck next door – note, they’re not just for kids.

Marketing Director Ashleigh Elliott said: “We’re delighted with the response from our Playground Family today – we have been overwhelmed with positive comments and messages about the second day of the festival.

Things have run very smoothly, the atmosphere in the site is perfect, everyone is so relaxed and happy.

Of course, we were hugely disappointed that Kelis and Egyptian Lover were unable to travel but the response on-site has been superb – people seem to have accepted this is the nature of the world right now and decided to enjoy themselves with the huge line-up of international stars performing in our wee park in Glasgow.

It was a very, very special day (Saturday) and we want to thank all of our staff and crew for their hard work in looking after our festivalgoers and keeping things moving so quickly and efficiently. And thank you to all of you, our Playground Family, for such a lovely welcoming atmosphere.

And now, on to day three… NILE RODGERS AND CHIC ARE HERE! So Everybody Dance… and make sure you check out the Forest Stage people – trust me.”

Saturday’s stages served up stellar sounds all day and night, as Scarlett Randle showed again why she’s destined for stardom, but it was Colonel Mustard and his Dijon 4 who really kickstarted the party – as always.

Sister Sledge featuring the wonderful Kathy are a band we have worked with for a long time now, and they ALWAYS deliver – but this show was really special for us, for you and for Kathy.

She told us: “Oh my god we were thrilled to be here tonight, this is the last night of our tour and to end it at Playground Festival…It’s funny because there’s a saying that “the program goes as you go” and from the very beginning, everything with Ricky, Brian and the Playground team bringing us to Glasgow over the years has been the best. That’s what we felt on stage and that’s what we felt in the crowd It felt like a hometown crowd, very real. Good times, good energy so that’s what we felt. That’s what the whole vibe was tonight.” Would we come back? Are you kidding, they’re not gonna get rid of us! And we’ll do Frankie next time. Frankie from Dundee.”

The Forty Clothing VIP arena was epic – 80s anthems from Michael Paterson, an incredible stint from Colin Barr and the main man himself Harry from Forty had the tent packed and singing LOUD.

Over on the Playpark stage, Vitalic won an army of new fans and the most eclectic crowd of the weekend, with families dancing together in front of our container walls to thunderous techno – the perfect Saturday night out for all the fam.

Roisin Murphy went down a storm on the same stage, with outfit changes galore and a perfect selection of tunes – and she enjoyed it so much she went to the Sub Club with her pals afterwards!

Meanwhile over on the main stage, Boy George and Culture Club brought an explosion of colour, sensational tunes and that razor-sharp wit to a delighted crowd.

Optimo had the Forest stage jumping once again, with fans old and young lapping up their eclectic tunes – and lots of kids breakdancing!

On today three, and Macy Gray, Nile Rodgers and CHIC and so many more huge names are headed for Rouken Glen park – why don’t you join us?
