Pearl Jam at BST Hyde Park-More lineup additions revealed!

PEARL JAM

With Summer 2022 just around the corner, American Express presents BST Hyde Park can reveal more brilliant additions for Pearl Jam’s two biggest ever London shows on Friday 8 July and Saturday 9 July

One of Britain’s most formidable rock bands, special guests Stereophonics will join the US rock titans Pearl Jam for their second night at BST Hyde Park. Cat Power, White Reaper, The Murder Capital, The Glorious Sons, Simon Townshend, La Luz, Sick Joy and Dream Nails will all perform on Friday’s show, joined by previously announced special guests Pixies. On Saturday, Imelda May, The Last Internationale, La Luz, JJ Wilde and The Wild Things also join the bill, with more artists to be added.

An unstoppable force in the UK’s alternative rock scene, Stereophonics have stood the test of time, releasing 11 albums over 3 decades, accumulating a massive 7 Number 1s among them. This year marks 25 years since the band’s formation and this legendary show will be packed with hits “Dakota”, “Maybe Tomorrow”, “Have a Nice Day”, new single “Do Ya Feel My Love” and many more. There’s new music on the way too in time for BST… their 12th album ‘Oochya!’ will arrive on 4 March. This will be Stereophonics’ first major performance in the iconic Royal Park for a decade, following their monumental show in Hyde Park for the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

BST favourite Cat Power returns to Hyde Park after her spectacular 2019 performance. Cat Power AKA Chan Marshall’s acclaimed latest covers album arrived earlier this year. Self-produced and featuring renditions of classic songs from artists like Jackson Browne, the Replacements, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Billie Holiday, and the Cat Power catalogue itself, Covers is at once a reminder of Marshall’s artistically intuitive power and the latest chapter in a truly illustrious career.

Louisville’s White Reaper join the Friday bill to at long last make their Hyde Park debut, having first been announced for 2020 shows. Ahead of the shows, they have a string of European dates on Pearl Jam’s tour ready for the huge BST Hyde Park welcome. Dublin-based post-punk group The Murder Capital are also on the line up. Their music explores the darker side of society utilising rumbling dread and the cathartic elements of post-punk. Their debut single ‘More or Less’ unexpectedly blew up online, propelling the band forward. With the hype swelling around them, they quickly began work on a debut album, 2019’s When I Have Fears which brought them even more acclaim.

Dublin-raised singer songwriter Imelda May comes to Hyde Park following the anticipated sixth album release 11th Past the Hour. May has already released two smash singles this year ‘Just One Kiss’ and ‘Made To Love’, both being made Radio 2 Playlist and Record of the week. With hits including ‘Inside Out’ and ‘Johnny’s Got A Boom Boom,’ she will be excitingly showcasing her first new music in four years.

Each of these incredible line ups will bring equally epic scenes to Hyde Park, with more names on the bills including Simon Townshend, The Glorious Sons, La Luz, Sick Joy and Dream Nails on Friday 8 July and The Last Internationale, La Luz, JJ Wilde and The Wild Things on Saturday 9 July.

Pearl Jam’s BST Hyde Park shows are UK exclusives on two consecutive nights – a sign of their immense popularity after their original 2020 show sold out in record time.

Formed in Seattle in 1990, Pearl Jam were one of the pioneers of the alternative rock movement that changed music forever. Led by the frontman Eddie Vedder, their breakout debut album Ten, released in 1991, had a lasting impact on the scene, achieving mainstream success. They’ve inspired countless bands with their hits, including ‘Black’, ‘Jeremy’, ‘ Alive’ and ‘Rearviewmirror’.

They’ve also been hugely commercially successful with more than 85 million albums sold worldwide and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, their first year of eligibility. Since 1990, they have cultivated a reputation for being one of the most incredible live acts of all time. In 2018, the band performed two nights at the O2 Arena in London to rave reviews, with Classic Rock calling their last London show an “astonishing end-of-tour blow out”. 2020 saw the release of critically acclaimed album Gigaton.

London’s festival is back for THE celebration of the summer. BST Hyde Park in 2022 will be a huge and eagerly awaited celebration for the nation. BST Hyde Park has been at the centre of London’s summer since 2013, bringing the world’s biggest artists to the greatest outdoor venue in the world over consecutive weekends with a host of free activities and entertainment during their midweek programme, Open House.  And we cannot wait to welcome everyone back.

American Express presents BST Hyde Park 2022 is back after two years away for more unique shows and unforgettable music moments, for the 8th edition. It has become THE place to be in the London summer, a date in the diary for hundreds of thousands of fans every year.

2020 continued the tradition of must-see experiences that has seen The Rolling Stones return to Hyde Park, Carole King play her classic album Tapestry in full for the first time ever, comebacks for The Strokes and The Libertines and many more.

There was Celine Dion owning it, Stevie Wonder stunning with a greatest hits set, Barbra Streisand charming fans and critics alike in a rare show, Florence + The Machine bringing a host of female performers to their day as well as co-headliners The National and finally, Robbie Williams royally entertaining a sold out Hyde Park.

And of course, Open House will return, the FREE 4 day event between the weekends of music, offering amazing events and activities for everyone – free vibrant live music & entertainment, sensational open-air cinema nights, live sport showings, street food, pop up bars and loads for the family too, including the delightful Chickenshed Children’s theatre.

Alongside bringing fans the superstar artists they deserve, is a real commitment to Accessibility, Community and Sustainability that American Express presents BST Hyde Park is very proud of and strives to improve year on year.

In 2019, the event was awarded Gold on Attitude Is Everything’s Charter of Best Practice for its facilities for deaf and disabled fans – including accessible viewing areas, roaming drinks vendors, lowered counters, dedicated accessible entrances with shuttles from car parking, British Sign Language interpreters for all acts on The Great Oak Stage, accessible toilets at every toilet block, Hearing Induction Loops, free Personal Assistant tickets for all ticket types.  American Express presents BST Hyde Park is one of the few festivals that allows and provides facilities for guide dogs.

Community initiatives do not stop with our midweek programme either, it also includes interns from local colleges working with the team, local schools performing at Open House and much more.  And sustainability is at the heart of the festival with a green team advising fans on recycling, fuel from 100% renewable resources, 100% biodegradable food packaging, compostable paper cups across the site.  Artists are even advised on greener riders.  Real time monitoring in 2019 helped reduce energy use by 25% and we continue to find ways to be more and more environmentally friendly.

About Hyde Park:

Every year millions of visitors from London, the UK and across the globe enjoy the iconic Hyde Park, one of the capital’s eight Royal Parks. Spanning 350 acres of green space in central London, Hyde Park has hosted world-renowned music artists since the 1960s. The summer concerts are an essential part of income generation for The Royal Parks, providing necessary funds to maintain and develop the parks for future generations to enjoy. They also help support the diverse culture of London and introduce new audiences to the parks.

About The Royal Parks:

The Royal Parks is the charity that exists to make sure London’s eight historic royal parks will always be there to enrich the lives of local residents and visitors to London.

This recently created charity does this by:

●  Sensitively and sustainably protecting and conserving the heritage landscapes of the parks

●  Adding value to every visit by providing information and opportunities to find out more about the historic significance of the parks and the wildlife that lives in them today

●  Supporting and encouraging the development of biodiversity in the parks

Encouraging visitors to support their physical and mental health by using the parks for relaxation and exercise

It costs £40m a year to manage the parks. The charity raises around 75 per cent of this money itself, with the remaining 25 per cent coming from the Government.
