Proud Scotland Awards 2022

National LGBT+ Awards to be held during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend

The Royal Bank of Scotland Proud Scotland Awards are returning to Glasgow on the 3rd of June at a glitzy ceremony and feast fit for a Queen at the cities Radisson Blu Hotel.

The awards which recognise and celebrate the contribution of members of the LGBT+ communities to Scottish life alternate between Edinburgh and Glasgow and this year will see Her Majesty’s new Platinum Pudding served for the first time in Scotland in a nod to her Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Members of the public can cast their nominations from today in 18 categories with people from every corner of Scotland, the UK and internationally expected to be put forward for the opportunity to glitter and shine at the awards ceremony alongside stars of the screen and stage.

Brett Herriot, Head of Pride Edinburgh and an award judge said:

“This year as we come out of Covid the awards are back with a bang and I cant wait to see some of the remarkable and moving stories that are submitted every year to the judges highlighting the amazing work people do to support equality”

First held in Glasgow in 2019 the ceremony moved online in 2020 where it was hosted live from a specially constructed studio in Stirling by celebrity and LGBT+ national treasure Gok Wan and was watched live by tens of thousands. They were hosted in 2021 by Bafta nominated actor David Carlyle from the hit channel 4 drama “It’s a Sin” at a lavish dinner and ceremony in Edinburgh with reduced numbers as part of covid mitigations that required all guests to prove they had tested negative for covid before the event.

John Stuart, Inspector for the north of Scotland at the Care Inspectorate and award judge added:

“It will be brilliant to travel across Scotland and drop in to visit and learn more about those nominated this year, but we need people to put forward their stories of the amazing things they have done or those of their friends so we can make sure that LGBT+ voices are heard in every part of Scotland because they really deserve to be highlighted to the public”

The top winners are inducted into the Scottish LGBT+ hall of fame. 2019 saw the British High Commissioner to Western India, Alan Gemmell from Glasgow, pick up the top gong with 2021 seeing two people share the honour – Hollyoaks star Annie Wallace from Aberdeen and ground-breaking TV writer and producer Russel T Davies from Swansea.

Euan McLeod from the Proud Scotland awards commented:

“Proud Scotland is Scotland’s national LGBT+ awards and the only event on such a scale outside of London. This year it really is a night of Queens as we ensure that people across Scotland and further afield get the opportunity to shine in front of their peers, the city welcoming superstars Queen and Adam Lambert back to Glasgow and we pay tribute to the remarkable 70 years on the throne for Her Majesty the Queen by serving the new Platinum Pudding honouring her reign”
