OUT NOW VIA MATADOR RECORDS
ADRIAN SHERWOOD REMIX OF ‘MY BABE’ RELEASED
“Lucifer On The Sofa puts nary a foot wrong, its rich songwriting enlivened by thrilling flourishes…Elvis Costello on the streets, ZZ Top between the sheets” – MOJO 4*
Out now on Matador, Lucifer on the Sofa is Spoon’s thrilling tenth album and “best record ever” (Rolling Stone).
Today, you can watch the video for “My Babe.” It’s the record’s anthemic centrepiece – a genuine love song shot through with tenderness, optimism, and a touch of self-aware bravado.
The “My Babe” video takes inspiration from a short-lived late ’70s variety show hosted by the legendary country music producer and oddball poet, “Cowboy” Jack Clement. The clip is directed by Jamie-James Medina and stars Brad Leland (Friday Night Lights). Watch the video HERE.
On streaming services the song is backed with a reconstruction by dub pioneer Adrian Sherwood. Listen HERE.
Critics are praising Lucifer On The Sofa and “The Hardest Cut” hit #1 at AAA Radio – watch Spoon play “The Hardest Cut,” “Wild,” and “Inside Out” on CBS Saturday Morning. Listen/purchase the album here.
“(Lucifer on the Sofa is) the best thing they’ve ever done, more than exceeding their usual quotient of fire guitars, killer choruses, and crafty rock-history updates” – Rolling Stone (****½)
“Lucifer On The Sofa is one of the band’s most focused songwriting efforts yet” – AV Club (A-)
‘Tension operates on a knife’s edge throughout the record. Its rootsy blues grit has you thinking of gun holsters and twitching fingers; the bass gives an eyelid’s tremor as it narrows towards its target.’– The Independent 5*
“timeless perfection” – The Guardian (*****)
“An album of breathtaking intensity…an instant classic” – UNCUT
‘Lucifer on the Sofa is hands down one of the best rock albums released in the last few years; deeply inspired by the place it was written and recorded in, and full of honest and relatable introspection.’ –Loud & Quiet 9/10
