King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut was packed out for one of the UK’s hottest properties

Glasgow has/had an abundance of many iconic music venues who have cemented a place in local and national history for the bands that have come through them. Tonight, is a cold, dark November night and as the shift workers leave the city for the day, the night shift filter in and some of these people are heading to ‘King Tut’s Wah, Wah Hut, nestled at the far end of St. Vincent Street. This little music venue hit the big time when a certain Manchurian band were discovered by music producer Alan McGee, the band’s name currently escapes me, but I’m sure you’ll know who I mean… ‘D’ you know what I mean’?
‘Definitely Maybe’ I’m looking forward to catching up with one of the best, newest bands to hit the Punk scene and that band is ‘The Meffs’. This dynamic duo comprised of Lily on guitar and vocals and Lewis on drums and backing vocals have made quiet the impression on the music scene and have garnered the attention of ‘Fat Mike,’ front dude of ‘NOFX’ and the brains behind Fat Wreck Chords. Mike has recently signed The Meffs to his new record company ‘Bottles to the Ground’ and The Essex band’s popularity has sky-rocketed! I first seen them play down at Rebellion Festival in Blackpool a couple of years ago and I was blown away! Original, fun, entertaining and exciting! That’s four words to describe them. Another four words are ‘Nice, Kind, honest and friends’.
I caught up with Lily and Lewis at load-in for a little portrait photoshoot. These are always fun and usually end up with Lewis being mauled by Lily in some hilarious fashion! After the shoot we headed to dinner and then back to Tuts to catch local support ‘Exploding Onions’ whom I have seen before. These guys put on a great show and warmed up the room on a cold, cold night.
The stage was set, and Lily and Lewis took up their positions, poised to bring the hose down. A shred of thunderous guitar fired out the P.A. and ricocheted around the room as Lily stabbed and chugged her way into the first song. The crowd’s attention instantly drawn to her as she left the stage and entered the crowd, marching up and down as she thumped her 6 string. As the drums kicked in, we were off! The duo skilfully made their way through their set, stopping only for a short game of ‘Name That Tune’ with the audience where prizes could be won! The Meffs put on one hell of a show and the crowd were left feeling satisfied with their dose of Punk-Rock-N-Roll.
The duo played one banger after another and each song was just as good as the last, there are no set fillers here, people! Each song is strong and single worthy! I’m no Nostradamus, but I predict big and spectacular things The Meffs in 2024!
As their ‘Broken Brains’ British tour comes to a close the band will no-doubt take a well- earned break over Christmas and will be back in the New Year! They will have loads of shows being announced so keep an eye on their socials!
