Millie Manders deserves bigger venues

Millie Manders and the ShutUp brought their own brand of fused music to, quite possibly, the smallest venue in Glasgow. Their ska-tinged alternative punk sound is massive and this tightly packed venue was all the better for it. The punters tightly packed out the room for a night of powerful music and socio-political commentary.

To start the night off Sacred Noise took to the stage and blessed the crowd with a mixture of powerful vocals and fine musicianship. In many ways the vocals didn’t sit well with the music; there was a lot of screaming and shouted vocals but it worked in a strange way. The vocalist was very animated throughout and managed, somehow, to perform whilst wearing the tightest corset. All in all, it was a very good set by the guest band and set the tone for the night… well worth looking out for in the future.

Millie Manders has a well-earned reputation within the music scene with her huge vocals, energetic performance, and mastery of multiple instruments but before the start of the set she was speaking to a few fans and it was obvious she had vocal issues and a pretty bad cough…

As the set began the cough was still evident but the vocals were on point…as strong and powerful as expected from a seasoned performer.

The room was absolutely jam-packed with room to skank at a premium but, somehow, the crowd managed. Millie had the crowd jumping and singing along to all her best-known tracks as the worry of sore throat was now a thing of the past (for the audience at least).

There were a few within the crowd witnessing Millie Manders and the ShutUp for the first time and couldn’t fail to have been impressed; the returning fans already knew the show was going to be a massive hit!

Mille and her band are surely worth a shot at bigger venues as there are few artists in this genre who put on a show of equal quality but secure bigger venues. You owe it to yourself to check them out…
