Today, East London’s rising star Rose Gray shares her new song ‘Easy’ alongside her debut mixtape dancing, drinking, talking, thinking. Accompanied by a trippy, psychedelic video directed by Rose herself and filmed in the first few days of 2021, ‘Easy’ is another knockout track from Rose, her love of 90s dance music clear in the anthemic keys and skittish beat that accompanies Rose’s incredible vocals. “I wanted the ‘Easy’ video to be a trip,” explains Rose. “It’s kinda mad, we shot most of it on greenscreen. I danced, I cried. Stylistically it’s pretty out there, and we didn’t really know how it would look till we got into the edit. I co-directed and came up with the concept, I’m a little bit of a control freak but I think it truly captures my vision- being inside my head.”

Originally drawn to big popstars with big voices such as Christina Aguilera, Rose now finds much of her inspiration in 90’s dance music: bands like Primal Scream, Saint Etienne and Smoke City have become her references. Inspired by dancing at parties around the city she grew up in and still calls home today, Rose’s tracks marry the heartbeat of a dancefloor with a very British tone of voice. Her lyrics encapsulate the adrenaline-spiking, serotonin-filled moments of the sun breaking through the clouds of a grey British sky; a bright burst of optimism that feels tangible even beneath lyrics about sadness and heartbreak.
Rose cemented her status as a rising star with a string of tracks in 2019, winning fans in NME, Billboard, i-D, BBC 6 Music, Hunger, MTV, Line of Best Fit, DIY, Dork Wonderland, London In Stereo and more. She played her debut headline show to a sold out crowd in Walthamstow in 2019.
