Remember, remember the 5th of November; gunpowder, treason and… Kasabian!

On the 5th of November 1605 Guy Fawkes and his cohorts tried to blow the roof off the Houses of Parliament in London – they failed. Fast forward to 5th November 2022 and Kasabian tried to blow the roof of the OVO Hydro in Glasgow – they also failed; but only just!

The Lathums kicked off the musical explosion with an accomplished set. The half-filled arena greeted the lads with huge enthusiasm and danced, cheered and sang along with the whole set as the band took it all in their stride. They displayed just the right amount of arrogance and confidence whilst massaging the crowd in the palms of their collective hands.

At just after 9 pm an expectant sell-out crowd were granted their wish as the house lights went down. The soundtrack was “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” and the fans roared along in traditional Glasgow fashion; the noise was deafening. The wait was finally over as Serge Pizzorno and his mates took to the stage and they milked it for all it was worth; Serge stood tall front and centre as he surveyed the adoring masses and gave them his nod of approval.

“Rocket Fuel” was an appropriate opener on bonfire night and the bangers continued all night with the lads commanding the stage like the seasoned pros that they are. The heat in the venue easily equalled that of the many bonfires blazing across the city as Serge continued to light the fuse under the ecstatic crowd

“In Love with a Psycho” was preceded by a request from Serge that the fans create “absolute chaos” and to have as many fans up on their shoulders as possible; if there is a world record for such a scenario it was under threat tonight as the (mostly teenage) crowd granted Serge his wish… it was a sight to behold at floor level and must’ve impressed the band and those looking on from the seated areas.

The whole spectacle was as big a success as could be wished for; the stage set was big and bright, and the big screens showed everything that needed to be seen by those in the extremities of the arena. The lights and the sound were on par with the best and the artists were in top form… a fantastic night for all involved on stage and off.
