Teddy Thompson – Heartbreaker Please – Album Review
On 28th May Teddy Thompson’s sixth solo album, ‘Heartbreaker Please’, hit stores. It has been nine years since his previous solo album, ‘Bella’, was released and many Teddy Thompson fans have been anxiously waiting to see what he had in store for them. Mixing the classic Thompson sound and sad/melancholic lyrics, with a rock ’n’ roll sound reminiscent of Buddy Holly and the Everly Brothers (to name just a few) he has not disappointed.
Packed with classic three-minute pop songs and the sad sound Thompson is probably best known for, the album is a delight. The inclusion of strings on ‘Take Me Away’ and Hammond organ on ‘What Now’ give them a nice depth. ‘Record Player ‘contains an interesting mispronunciation of “hit”, and ‘It’s Not Easy’ has classic rock ’n’ roll guitar.
The highlights from the album are ‘At A Light’, ‘Heartbreaker Please‘, and ‘It’s Not Easy’, but at 33 minutes long it’s easily listened to multiple times in a row and you’ll soon be singing along to every song.
