San Francisco legends 2002 concept album given 3 CD makeover with 27 new tracks
Cherry Red Records continue to plunder The Residents extensive back catalogue with yet another repackaged offering, complete with extensive bonus material. It has become something of a production line of late with Demons Dance Alone (pREServed Edition) being the latest in The Residents’ extensive ongoing pREServed series – expect more throughout 2024 and possibly even 2025 too, the way things are going.
Separated into three parts, Loss, Denial and The Three Metaphors across Disc 1, the album deals with the emotional effects of the Sept 11th terrorist attacks in 2001. Originally spanning 20 songs, (although other tracks were not listed on the original versions), this has now been augmented with the inclusion of 5 bonus tracks. Discs 2 and 3 feature a collection of demo and live workings of the original material, compiled by The Residents, assisted by Carla Fabrizio, with an essay by Jim Knipfel and sleevenotes by The Residents’ Mysterious Archivist.
Look out for forthcoming ‘Animal Lover’ and ‘Tweedles!’ sets, as well as the long- awaited ‘American Composers Series’ pREServed set and a number of special vinyl releases. This release is also available on vinyl for the first time as a double 12″, with each part spread across 3 sides, with side 4 containing bonus tracks ‘Sleepwalker, Hidden Hand, Vampire and Torture‘. It doesn’t contain the demos and live versions from the CD release. It also has different cover art, featuring as it does the original Porno Graphics artwork shown below.
