26 March 2021

Gritpop band The Rotanas are proud to present their new single ‘Manic which is now available on all good DSPs.

Speaking of the inspiration behind the new track, songwriter James Wilson commented: “‘Manic is a song written about people who have issues that you can see that they can’t, and the confrontation based around that. It’s built on a personal experience where I could clearly see a close friend had mental and anger issues, and despite my best efforts to intervene, I watched on and saw those issues effect and seep into their personal relationships.”

Serving up a zingy and fearless new recipe for Britpop, The Rotanas are a five-piece from Cardiff in Wales with some seriously infectious songwriting credentials. Their latest release ‘Spinnerreceived network airplay on Radio X, Sirius XM, and RTÉ 2FM, as well as repeat plays on BBC Radio Wales and Amazing Radio. The song also saw the band soar to the top of the Dutch indie chart compiled by IndieXL, pipping new releases from acts such as the Foo Fighters, Maximo Park, and Royal Blood to the top spot.

Arguably their strongest release to date, the band are looking to improve on their success and reach a wider audience with ‘Manic’. The single is a step in a new sonic direction for The Rotanas, one in which they complement their traditional ’90s indie style with blues, psychedelic and shoegaze elements. ‘Manic’ was recorded with Richard Jackson (Pretty Vicious, The Automatic, Super Furry Animals), mixed by Nick Brine (Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Verve) and mastered by Pete Maher (The Rolling Stones, U2).

Taking influence from Oasis, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Cast and The Verve, the band initially honed their craft in their formative years playing shows up and down the country. They embarked on their debut headline UK tour in November 2019 working with promotion company This Feeling. In the same month, This Feeling made the band’s second single ‘Caught On Camera their track of the week, and it was subsequently played by Gordon Smart on Radio X and added to the station’s evening playlist.

Highlights of the band’s career so far include selling out Cardiff’s iconic Clwb Ifor Bach, sharing stages with Black Grape, Pete Doherty and Kyle Falconer of The View, playing the 2019 Isle Of Wight Festival, performing at the 2019 Shimmer Sounds festival in their hometown alongside Temples, The Blinders, Black Honey and Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, and having their single ‘Scores On The Doors added to Spotify’s Editorial Hot New Bands playlist.
