New beginnings have reached their first, emotional full stop for relatable and rising singer-songwriter, Rianne Downey with the release of her debut Fuel To The Flame EP. As well as marking that significant milestone with an animated video for the evocative Start Again, the angel-voiced artist announces a run of seven additional solo live dates, in addition to support slots on some of The Lathums’ biggest upcoming shows.

After completing her first, completely sold-out date in her native Glasgow at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut this month, Downey has announced that she will return to the city in April to play St Luke’s on Wed 13 April 2022. Amongst the shows now pencilled in is a debut London headline show, appearing at Camden Assembly, London on Tue 12 April 2022. Aberdeen, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Leeds are also lined up to welcome the singer for the first time.

Further underlining how far the Scottish artist has come in such a short time, Downey follows up a triumphant debut at TRNSMT and recent support date with The Snuts at Glasgow Barrowland by writing in a run of dates with The Lathums, visiting Sheffield, Leeds and a sold-out, 3,500 capacity Victoria Warehouse in Manchester this October.

The full run of remaining and newly announced Rianne Downey UK live dates are as follows:

Without a single vinyl copy remaining after the special edition, Blood Records physical release of the four-track Fuel To The Flame EP disappeared in hours, the completion of the digital release gives all fans the first, complete insight into Downey’s musical gift, inspirations and motivations. Start Again offers more words of old-before-time wisdom and raindrop, finger-picked melodies in an intimate love letter to the person that has grown from beneath the shadow of uncertainty into the sunshine of self-belief.

Once lost and now found by music, the 21-year-old stands by Start Again and the collection of songs as a statement of growth, hoping to pass on the strength she’s found onto others.

She says: “We shouldn’t look into the past; it doesn’t serve us anymore and I wrote ‘Start Again’ to myself to remind me of that. I have always been too harsh on myself and have had to learn to trust my own instincts, people would pay me compliments and I’d never believe them. But you need to believe in yourself and do the things you love. I do this because I love it.”

Having comfortably made the move from self-recording at home for an online audience, growing a huge following in the process, to confident EP-recording sessions at Parr Street Studios, Liverpool with The Coral’s James Skelly in late 2020, Downey can look ahead to taking the next, big step and hitting the road as a solo artist.

Having enjoyed her ascent from shy, bedroom balladeer to hearing her voice on BBC Radio 2 with on-air support for previous singles Stand My Ground and Do Or Die, as well as BBC 6 Music spinning the title track and first, ever release, Fuel To The Flame, Downey reaches the end of the first leg of her long journey with Start Again. The final destination, lifted by the support of her loyal fans, appears to be as far as her dreams can take her.

The final single beats a path to Downey’s musical influences, with First Aid KitAmy Winehouse, The Specials and Stone Roses all made guilty of playing their part, leaving subtle fingerprints in both her sound and realist lyrics.
