TURFBOY ATTENDANCE RELEASED on Horn & Hoof Records PCN Album Review

TURFBOY

ATTENDANCE

RELEASE DATE – 8th July

Horn & Hoof Records

TURFBOY have their roots firmly planted in Ireland and can often be seen and heard rocking the many great venues that Dublin has to offer. They formed in 2012 out of their mutual appreciation of 90’s alternative music and have been honing their skills to the point where their debut album – ‘At Tension’ – will be released on the 8th of August this year.

‘Attendance is the final single of a trilogy released in the run-up to the release of the album and hopefully, this review will give an insight into the path Turfboy is navigating for themselves.

The band self identify as ‘filthy, *culchie, alt/rock/metal and that probably best describes them as Colin Kelly goes from from soft, almost disinterested, 90’s indie style vocals to full on JONATHON DAVIS grit. The vocals, in my opinion, could probably do with some more space in the mix. *I have no idea what culchie means

The sound has a grunge style production without sounding all Seattle; almost sounding live with a great spread of guitars and understated drums. The basic and clean guitar chords are supported early in the song by a picked rhythm guitar until the chorus arrives and serves up nice power and distortion. The chorus really lifts the song in all aspects and showcases the band’s attitude and ability to take the elements of the influences and make them their own.

As a prelude to the debut album, it whets the taste buds in anticipation of the release and makes it one to look out for.
