US rock legends The Strokes and global favourites Tears For Fears will headline two of the extra five nights announced for Lancashire’s Lytham Festival 2022.

It was revealed earlier this month that the North West’s biggest live music festival is about to get even bigger next year after plans were approved to extend the usual five-day event to 10.

And today, promoters Cuffe and Taylor have announced the first two headliners to join those previously announced for the event taking place from Tuesday 28 June to Sunday 10 July.

One of the most influential bands of the 21st century, The Strokes Lytham Festival performance on Friday July 8 will be an exclusive North of England show. From the moment they released their critically acclaimed debut album Is This It in 2001 The Strokes were destined for huge international success and have gone on to earn a string of awards including a Grammy earlier this year for their most recent album The New Abnormal.

And to make this one huge rock night to remember, The Strokes will be supported by Irish post punk band Fontaines DC.

The following night, Saturday July 9, will see timeless favourites Tears For Fears headline. The Brit Award winners have garnered international success and toured throughout the world delighting audiences with their iconic hits including Mad WorldShoutEverybody Wants To Rule The World and Head Over Heels.

Critically acclaimed hitmaking singer-songwriter Alison Moyet is special guest, while Australian pop star Natalie Imbruglia will open the show.

The five nights already announced for Lytham Festival 2022 will see headline performances from Motown legend Diana Ross who kicks off the festival on Tuesday June 28, Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi on Wednesday 29, indie rockers Snow Patrol on Thursday 30, British music icons Duran Duran on Friday July 1 and international superstar Lionel Richie on Saturday 2. The remaining three headliners and support acts will be announced soon.

Festival director Peter Taylor said: “Lytham Festival 2022 is going to be huge and we can’t wait. We already had five first class headliners lined up and now we have added to that bill with one of the most formidable rock bands of our time The Strokes and pop-rock favourites Tears For Fears.

“With three more headliners still to announce we have a very big event in the making for 2022 and look forward to welcoming around 200,000 people to enjoy live music once again on our wonderful Lytham Green.

“Moving to 10 nights means we can bring 10 world-class headliners to our festival so keep your eyes peeled and make sure you don’t miss out on what is going to be a very memorable event.”
