Australian singer-songwriter Azure Ryder is back with her huge new single this summer. ‘Some Kind of Love’ is a bold step forward for Azure, arriving alongside an exquisite video and is the first piece of music from her in 2021. Watch here.
Azure teased us with her uniquely rich sound in early 2020 with her debut ‘Running with the Wolves’ EP which garnered much intrigue and early praise for her clear natural talent. Azure’s second EP followed in November 2020 despite the hurdles that the year peppered throughout the industry and solidified her ability to deliver a perfectly formed body of work. Listen to ‘Crazy With The Light’ EP here. Prior to travel restrictions brought on by the pandemic, the Australian-Lebanese singer split her time between London, LA, Nashville and home (a small coastal town near Sydney) where she worked on her music. This new offering ‘Some Kind of Love’ was originally written and recorded in London (and was in fact the demo that got her record deal with Island Records) and has more recently been produced and mixed by Sydney-based Dylan Nash.
In the 18 months since her debut release Azure has already grown in confidence, strength and skill. As life evolves so too does her pool of inspiration for her songwriting. Written in London where the young singer-songwriter lived for a couple of years, ‘Some Kind of Love’ is a euphoric and powerful step forward for Azure. The video is directed by Simon Lekias – who’s worked with the likes of Kylie and Lily Allen and produced all of Azure’s visuals for her new era – and keeps Azure firmly front and centre, adorned in black and gold with the camera magnetically drawn to her, leaving the viewer in rapture.
The connection with Simon Lekias came via fellow Australian world-renowned creative, the fashion designer Zimmerman choosing Azure’s track ‘Stronger’ for their 70’s mirrored Fall 2021 ready-to-wear campaign. For the runway show they worked with Lekias and four Australian musicians who each performed their own song for a curated video that formed the backdrop to the show. Watch here.
For her debut releases Azure received plaudits on these shores from the likes of the BBC, Sunday Times, Notion and BBC Radio 1 plus incredible support in Oz from Triple J, with her beautiful single ‘Dizzy’ being ‘most played’ on the station, and Azure now has 25M global streams. Playing two knockout sold out shows in Sydney in December 2020, Azure hopes to bring her captivating live sets to worldwide stages soon…
Azure is constantly influenced by the power of the earth, the sky, the moon and the stars which you can hear throughout her music – powerful, earthy and emotionally stirring, she seeks guidance and strength from the natural energies that surround her on a daily basis which in turn feed into her sound.
