HUGH CORNWELL ANNOUNCES 2024 UK TOUR WITH SPECIAL GUESTS THE PRIMITIVES

As leader of The Stranglers, Hugh Cornwell was the main songwriter of all the band’s most memorable songs across their ten stellar albums.

The Stranglers 1977 debut ‘Rattus Norvegicus’ featured seminal songs “Peaches”, “(Get a) Grip (on Yourself)” and more, while follow-up albums ‘No More Heroes’, ‘Black and White’ and ‘The Raven’ further consolidated Cornwell’s stature as a unique songwriter and musician.

His lyrics to “Golden Brown” (from 1981 album ‘La Folie’) and their multiple meanings acted as a masterclass in songwriting,  with the song reaching Number 2 in the UK singles chart. After releasing his final album with the band, ‘10’ in 1990, Hugh embarked on a solo career.

Fast forward to the current day and Hugh is still enjoying an illustrious solo journey. In 2022 he released his latest album ‘Moments of Madness’, filled with acute, pithy and witty observations, the record has received widespread critical acclaim from the likes of UncutMojoLouder Than WarVive Le Rock and more.

Now, Hugh Cornwell has announced a run of UK tour dates for the beginning of 2024. Kicking off in Bury St Edmunds on 17 January, the 8-date tour will see Hugh joined by very special guests The Primitives.

The English indie-rockers hail from Coventry and are perhaps best known for their 1988 international hit single “Crash”. Formed in 1984, disbanded in 1992 and reformed in 2009, the band’s two constant members are vocalist Tracy Tracy and guitarist Paul Court and the duo have been joined by drummer Tig Williams since 1987. With their music often described as falling somewhere on the spectrum between indie-rock and indie-po, their style straddles power-pop, new-wave and post-punk.

I do like a bit of throw back to the heydays of the 60’s/70’s/80’s when it comes to taking shots of bands. I grew up on the music papers (NME/Sounds/Melody Maker) and drew influence from Pennie Smith/Jill Furmanovsky/Anton Corbijn/Bob Gruen/Adrian Boot/Charles Peterson.
