Iconic artist Yoko Ono brings DREAM artwork to Glasgow for the SWG3 x Jim Lambie Billboard Project
The artist’s famous piece has been installed at the arts venue as Glasgow International 2024 will soon get underway

SWG3 is delighted to announce that iconic artist and singer Yoko Ono‘s striking work, DREAM, has been installed at the venue as part of The Billboard Project series.
The piece has been unveiled to coincide with the start of the Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art, which takes place from June 7 to 23 2024. Remaining in place until the end of the year, the installation will provide art lovers across the city and beyond with a unique opportunity to see the legendary artist’s work on a large scale.
Curated by artist Jim Lambie and SWG3, The Billboard Project project takes the 12-metre-wide billboard that was installed on the Galvanizers’ corrugated steel gable end during The New York Times Climate Hub in November 2021, and transforms it into a blank canvas to showcase cutting-edge contemporary art. Forming part of a treasure trail of creative installations and artworks scattered across the SWG3 complex, previous contributors have included David Keenan with “Magic Is Real”.
As Scotland’s biennial festival of contemporary art, every two years, Glasgow International presents a programme of national and international artists, amplifying the city’s identity as a vibrant and distinctive centre for artistic production. SWG3 will also host a special event SWG3 X Glasgow International Party on Friday, June 7, where guests will enjoy live music and a special preview of the programme. The evening will begin with drinks on the Warehouse Terrace for the opening of the exhibition Martin Beck: Last Night, which will be hosted at SWG3 until Sunday, June 23 2024. Artist Martin Beck’s 13 hour video documents every record played by musical host David Mancuso 40 years ago, on June 2, 1984, at one of the last parties at the 99 Prince Street location of seminal New York dance party known as The Loft. Both full length and condensed screenings will take place across June.
Joining the musical lineup for the evening, Louise X will open for Mozart Estate, who will perform live in the Galvanizers space. In the TV Studio, emerging Glasgow trio Brenda will bring an energetic set of pop punk, followed by musical collective Pleasure Pool, and legendary DJ duo J.D. Twitch and J.G. Wilkes aka Optimo, who will keep the party going until 3am.

In addition to the exhibition Martin Beck: Last Night, SWG3 will host a performance by Lawrence Abu Hamdan on the festival’s opening night, 6 June. Air Pressure (2021) will be performed for the first time in the UK at SWG3. Abu Hamdan’s performance is part of Live Audio Essays, organised and curated by The Common Guild, a series of three performances by Abu Hamdan presented in different music venues around Glasgow during Glasgow International. In addition, on Saturday 8 June, art collective Stasis will perform Best of #9, especially commissioned by SWG3 – please see ‘notes to editors’ for more information.
Tickets for the SWG3 X Glasgow International Party are £15 + booking fee and on sale. Visit https://swg3.tv/events/2024/june/swg3-x-glasgow-international-party/.
