Raised in the North East, but now based in Manchester, singer songwriter Olive Rees, known simply as Oliveseque, today releases her 3rd single Anomaly.

Accurately outlined as the happiest sounding Olivesque song to date, racing to catch up to her acclaimed, breakthrough 2023 releases, pin-sharp production and lullaby vocals affect a deceit of breezy, upbeat synth pop combined with darker lyrical intent. Immersed in an early ‘breakthrough era’ of fertile collaborative connections, performing at the front of talked-about, electro punks, Nightbus and, by extension, forging alliances with peers such as BDRMM and Working Men’s Club, the return of Olivesque sets reels running once more on a compelling trip of personal artistic revelation.

Skimming the stones of her first two singles over last year’s release schedule, Olivesque was able to watch, satisfied, as the ripples emanated from the release of Alice andDeath, both unflinching, personal confrontations of identity and lost time. Now Anomaly arrives with an equal sense of unblinking courage, yet floated deceptively on a warm bed of instantly accessible, catchy, DIY pop.

Olivesque says: ’Anomaly’ follows a character drowning in bad habits and maps the manipulation and thought process behind selfishly wanting someone to stay when you refuse to meet their needs. “Am I your Anomaly?” is an insult, it’s a clear recognition that someone deserves better when you’re asking them to ignore their instincts. I think subconsciously we are all guilty of manipulation in some form, some worse than others.”

Having returned to the stage with a low-key outing in her adopted home city in August, playing Manchester’s The Castle to friends and fans, the North East-born and raised artist looks ahead on the live front by adding an appearance at Unconvention Manchester 2024.  Olivesque plays the festival showcase at Band On The Wall, Manchester on Thu 21 November.
