Tonight sees a rise in enthusiasm and excitement as Holly Humberstone kicks off her ‘Sleep Tight’ tour in Bristol UK with just the slightest amount of red lighting, dressed in a short pleated leather-effect skirt and tie-dye shirt that reads ‘I’m sorry I’m this hot’ on the front.

A fan shouts we love you Holly, but she waves it away and thanks them for being there. Judging by the sold-out reaction from all those who came to watch her first show tonight, Brit Rising Star Winner Humberstone will not disappoint. This is also the first time she has toured with a full band – adding some much-needed depth to her setlist which tonight features mostly new songs.

Kicking off the hour-long set with “The Walls are too thin”, the audience sang along from start to finish. Humberstone gave a slight smile when her voice was soft yet clear and had a warm tone to it as she pointed the microphone towards them so they could complete the song. It is difficult to tell if she purposely made her music low for comfort or if it was just experimentation in sound design.

The crowd were able to hear songs from Humberstone’s small but well-formulated repertoire that contained powerful words about growing up and moving away from where you grew up – reflecting on happy childhood memories in their melodies amongst guitar, keyboard and synth sounds. After her other band members left the stage for several songs, there became a much more intimate feeling between performer and audience – who loved this change of pace and felt fully engaged by every minute note played during these interludes in silence.

Later in the set, Humberstone played her first single “Deep End”, which was released back in January 2020. It speaks of her little sister and how much she adores her – how Humberstone wants to be there for her no matter what; when tough times come crashing down. The crowd became completely invested in the lyrics and sentiment behind “Deep End”. and then in “Falling asleep at the Wheel” (which would have led into the encore).

Holly Humberstone had a great idea though, instead of walking off stage after one last song, they stayed out there and finished up! This led to two more songs called “Sleep Tight “(with another round of large applause) followed by “Scarlett”.

Although Holly Humberstone has only been around for a couple of years she has already attracted a big following of loyal fans and we can expect a lot more from her.
