Peter Hook and the Light tour nearly sold out
Peter Hook & The Light’s “Joy Division : A Celebration” April 2023 Tour – Almost Half Of Dates Already Sold Out With Two Months To Go
With Peter Hook & The Light having toured their “Joy Division : A Celebration” concerts throughout 2022 with very well received dates across the UK, Europe and North America, the band have nine dates for the acclaimed show in England, Scotland and Wales for April 2023
With four dates already sold out with over two months to the concerts, the tour takes in both new venues as well as those previously visited by The Light, beginning Thurs 13th April at O2 Academy Edinburgh in what is The Light’s currently only confirmed Scottish appearance of the year.
Having sold out Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom last July with the show which combines both Joy Division’s albums “Unknown Pleasures” and “Closer” in full along with additional tracks from the JD catalogue and an opening set of New Order material, the Edinburgh date provides an additional opportunity for fans to catch this acclaimed live show.

The “Joy Division : A Celebration” shows were originally planned to commemorate four decades of the bands and Ian Curtis’ influence in May 2020 and began some two years later to great reactions from fans and critics alike with some quotes from concert reviews here.

“The music is truly joyful, and Hooky belted it out with heartfelt passion. Stripping to the waist for the standing ovation, we had a living example of primal, human, animalistic purity. This was an experience” 5 Stars – The Reviews Hub
“It is probably the best performance and emotional reaction I’ve ever seen at a gig. It is an end to an astounding, astounding gig. A gig I won’t be forgetting for a long, long time. Wow. Simply, Wow.” All Music
“A superb performance that will live long in the memories of those lucky enough to be here.” We Shoot Music
The concerts were also set to celebrate The Light’s 10th anniversary but the April 2023 dates now come some nearly thirteen years from Hooky beginning his odyssey through both his bands’ back catalogues.
These Joy Division album shows have become much less common for The Light as they moved through their progression of touring the New Order albums in succession. Aside from some one-off gigs such as The Roxy in LA, The Roundhouse and Manchester Academy, the “Joy Division : A Celebration” tour is the first major shows for this set in some years.
Joy Division’s allure and music remain strong in popular culture, holding a sincere reverence. The albums are played sequentially in track order, respecting the inspiration and impact of the stunning debut album “Unknown Pleasures” and the immaculately produced second “Closer”.
“Unknown Pleasures” features “Disorder”, “Insight”, “New Dawn Fades”, and “She’s Lost Control” while “Closer”, considered “a start to finish masterpiece” by Pitchfork Media counts “Atrocity Exhibition”, “Heart And Soul” and “Twenty Four Hours” amongst its many highlights.
In addition to the albums, the concerts span the entirety of Joy Division’s rich but short career including early Warsaw material, tracks from the compilation LP “Still” to the final songs “Ceremony” and “In a Lonely Place” written by Joy Division which were to form New Order’s first single.
