Blair Dunlop Delights London Audience

Blair Dunlop played The Water Rats in London midway through his 19-date 2022 UK Tour. Blair, an English singer-songwriter, whose latest album Trails:Queensland was released in January 2021, was supported by fellow folk musician/singer Ellie Gowers.

Ellie’s six-song set mixed covers with originals – including songs from her upcoming album – and was a great introduction.  From her first song – an a capella number – Ellie had the audience captivated with her beautiful voice.  Her self-penned songs showcased her writing and guitar-playing skills, and you were left wanting more.

Blair Dunlop put on a good show, mixing new songs – including those his record label didn’t like – with fan favourites such as Sweet On Me and Feng Shui.  He had the audience’s attention from the start, his between-song chat entertaining them nearly as much as his music did.  The guitar parts displayed Blair’s skill, most obviously on No Go Zones, and ending with the wonderful duet with Ellie of Gillian Welch’s Dark Turn of Mind

BLAIR DUNLOP

Whilst the gig would have been most enjoyable for those who are familiar with his music, the show was a good introduction to Blair, and if you just enjoy modern English folk rock or have heard of him and have always wondered if you would like his work, seeing him live on this tour would be a great way confirm either way.  The added benefit of seeing Blair on tour would give you a chance to talk to the man himself, who was available after the show to meet people and sell his wares.
